New Delhi: Manish Pandey has been added to the Indian squad on Monday (March 28) as cover for the injured Yuvraj Singh ahead of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 semifinal clash against West Indies. The 34-year-old left-hander hurt his ankle on Sunday during India's win over Australia and might not get fit in time for the next clash.
Yuvraj went for an MRI scan in Mumbai and the team management is anxiously waiting for the results. Pandey's addition is just a precautionary measure and he will be replacing the left-hander in the 15-member squad only if Yuvraj is ruled out for the rest of the tournament. India did something similar earlier by drafting in Bhuvneshwar Kumar as a backup for Mohammed Shami.
MS Dhoni, India skipper, did speak last night after the game about the possibility of having a replacement player ready in case of a serious injury to Yuvraj. "I don't know whether we should make changes but it is possible, depending on the wicket. We have to see Yuvraj's injury as well. We would definitely like to have a replacement ready if the physio says his injury is bad," he said.
